National HIV Testing Day: Wednesday, June 27th, 10AM-7PM

Ready to get tested?

It’s that time of year again!

On Wednesday, June 27, 2018 the Institute of Women and Ethnic Studies’ HIV Testing and Prevention Program is partnering with Greater Than AIDS and Walgreens for National HIV Testing Day (NHTD). This day is so important to us for many reasons, one of which being the fact that in 2016, Louisiana ranked 2nd for HIV diagnosis rates in the US, and among those diagnosed with HIV, African-American and Latinx individuals continue to be disproportionately affected by the epidemic. HIV testing is important because with early detection and treatment, a person living with HIV can achieve a suppressed viral load which leads to living a long, healthy life and having effectively no risk of transmitting HIV to their HIV-negative sexual partners.

Last year our team tested 72 people for NHTD and this year we are challenging ourselves to make sure even more members of the Greater New Orleans community know their HIV status. We set a goal of testing 85 people and we can only do that with your help!
Here’s how you can help:

  • Get tested!
  • Talk to your partner about being tested
  • Bring a friend or two! Having support from friends can make HIV testing easier.
  • Follow @PAUSE_IWES on Instagram and Twitter and PAUSE-IWES on Facebook and share our NHTD posts with your followers, and if you do, don’t forget to use the hashtags #PAUSE4IT #NHTD, #GreaterThan
  • Forward this email to your networks
  • Print the flyer (included below) and share it, or email us to send a larger poster you can print and hang in your office or business

On June 27th we’re testing at Walgreens at 3216 Gentilly Blvd. from 10am to 7pm. As a little lagniappe, we will also extend the hours of our regular Wednesday testing at NOLA Village/El Pueblo NOLA on 5112 E. Nemours St. in New Orleans East from 10am to 7pm. NOLA Village/El Pueblo NOLA will have Spanish-speaking HIV testing counselors on site.

For more information on our regular testing hours, please visit our website.

HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT OUR GIVEAWAY?
Did we mention that everyone who gets tested with us this NHTD has a chance to receive TWO tickets to the 2018 Essence Music Festival or a sexy self-care gift basket? Make it a point to come see us, where we’ll have trivia and we’ll be giving away other goodies including safer sex kits and condoms, water bottles, pens, buttons, and more. Plus our staff will be on site to answer all of your sexual health questions!
