5th Annual “Greater New Orleans Adult Learning Institute (ALI), June 1, 2018

Dear Colleague:

We have the pleasure of inviting you to participate in the 5th Annual “Greater New Orleans Adult Learning Institute (ALI)” which will take place on June 1, 2018 from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm at Loyola University’s Monroe Library. The Institute is hosted by the Literacy Alliance of Greater New Orleans.

The Adult Learning Institute’s goals are to offer training for Adult Basic Education teachers and leaders and promote the exchange of ideas and experiences among Adult Education providers and the Greater New Orleans community.  We want to discuss and learn more about:

  • Food literacy, family literacy, and workforce literacy!
  • Adult learning in a variety of contexts, from adult basic education to workplace training and professional learning.
  • The fact that with new educational experiences adults take on new identities.
  • Expanding ESL, Civics, and Citizenship Education in our Communities.
  • How we can propel our students to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens.
  • Are we in alignment with the mandates of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and if not, what resources do we need?
  • What’s working for you, your program, and your students?

To that end, the Literacy Alliance of GNO would like to invite you to submit a proposal to present at our 5thannual conference. The 2018 conference theme is “Bridges.”If you feel that you have anything to offer the field of Adult Education, please tap into your creativity and submit a proposal!  Breakout sessions will be 55 minutes. Among the topics that our attendee’s consistently seek more guidance in are: Different ways we are working to BRIDGE literacy, adult learners, and adult education to further work and academic opportunities; Selecting marketing channels that work; Improving adult student retention; WIOA; Test-taking strategies for the HiSET and Test of Adult Basic Education; Leadership skills for ABE Providers; Transition Strategies; Partnering with Workforce Leaders for Student Success; Workforce Curriculum Materials; Tracking adult student retention; Advocating for adult students internally and externally; Building buy-in among colleagues and leaders; Making data-based decisions to increase student success; Working with technology; Funding Opportunities; Understanding what adult students “want”; and, Assessing feasibility of new program ideas to name a few (see form for more tracks).
