Volunteers Needed for CCANO Naturalization Workshop November 6th

Dear All-

Thank you so much for your assistance recruiting volunteers for CCANO’s previous and/or current naturalization workshops. Our next workshop is this coming Friday and although we have put the word out we are still short on volunteers to help the nearly 60 clients we have pre-registered complete their applications at a cost of only $50. We are still hoping to fill about 30 2-hour volunteer slots from 9 am to 3 pm. Would it be possible to please disseminate the information below one last time to any attorney list-serves, law student groups, etc. with folks who might be interested in helping low-income members of our community become U.S. citizens?

THANK YOU AGAIN!!

Annie Johnston, Esq.
Immigration Staff Attorney
Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans

Dear All:

Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans will be hosting a one-day naturalization workshop at 2505 Maine Avenue in Metairie on November 6, 2015 from 9 am until 5 pm. We have already pre-registered nearly 60 applicants.

We thank those of you who helped at the last citizenship workshop (& hope you’ll come back!), and we welcome new volunteers! This call for volunteers includes a need for:

1. Legal: Attorneys/ law students/ paralegals who can help eligible applicants fill out the naturalization application (a.k.a. Form N-400).

2. Translators: to assist attorney/law students/ paralegals fill out N400s

3. General: volunteers to help register applicants, set up, shut down, etc.

During the workshop, each applicant will be screened for naturalization eligibility by one of our staff BIA Accredited Representatives. Those applicants who are deemed eligible to apply for naturalization will then be sent to a volunteer station to fill out the naturalization applications. We are allocating roughly 2 hours to prepare each application. All applications filled out by volunteers will be reviewed by our staff before they are mailed to USCIS. Each volunteer must sign up for a minimum of two hours, although four hours to complete two applications would be preferable.

We will hold a brief training session beginning at 8 AM on the morning of the workshop. If you are interested and available to volunteer at any of the times below, please write your name, contact information and volunteer title (legal/ translator/ general) in all of the time slots that you will be available and send the chart back in a reply to Reyna Croft rcroft@ccano.org. If you know others who might be interested, please forward. THANK YOU!
