Grace and peace in Jesus the Risen Christ be with you your family.
I am Reverend Edward Thompson and serve as the Pastor and Priest-in-Charge at All Souls Episcopal Church and Community Center in New Orleans’ historic Lower Ninth Ward. Established by the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana in the aftermath of, and in response to, the disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina, we are a small faith community striving to respond to the enormous human needs around us.
We run an after-school homework assistance program along with music and other enrichment activities for Pre-K through Middle School age kids, Monday through Thursday. We also are a hub for food, used clothing and used furniture assistance while offering sewing lessons to young and older women, computer, internet and printing facilities, and short-term housing for mission groups from around the country and beyond (Paris, France, for example) who come to help with recovery and rebuilding efforts in the 9th Ward. These services are offered at virtually little to no cost to our community. Grants, individual donations and fundraisers are what help sustain these essential services.
Our annual fundraiser that supports these programs is SOUL-A-BRATION, an evening of good music, good New Orleans cuisine, a raffle of great prizes and a silent auction which is usually the evening’s highlight. This year’s SOUL-A-BRATION will feature a “Gumbo Cook-Off” competition in which folks will have the opportunity to taste and then vote for the best Gumbo.
Please see attached a copy of the invite. We hope that you will join us at this very special event. If you cannot, please consider making a donation to support our community development work.
