VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Gulf Coast Center for Law & Policy upcoming Free Immigration Legal Clinic on May 30th

Dear Justice Community:

The Gulf Coast Center for Law & Policy (GCCLP) is still seeking volunteers for its upcoming Immigration Legal Clinic. This is a great way to get pro bono hours free and clear of lingering cases. It is also a great way for new practitioners to learn about the DACA..

FREE DACA LEGAL CLINIC: GCCLP is hosting a DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) Immigration Legal Clinic on May 30, 2015 from 10AM-3PM at Iglesia de Dios de Getsemani Church (2701 Transcontinental Blvd, Metairie, LA).

At this legal clinic, 50 pre-registered youth from the GNO area will be screened for immigration benefits. Eligible participant will complete the application process with GCCLP staff and trained volunteers. The clinic will also provide basic intake interviews for parents of US citizen children that qualify for DAPA. Interested participants must register by e-mailing Ada Marin Allen at ada@gcclp.org or calling (985) 788-7917.

HOW TO VOLUNTEER: We are seeking volunteers to commit a two hour shift (See chart below).

Legal Service Providers: (Attorneys/ law students/ paralegals) will help conduct comprehensive intake interviews and document completion. A one-hour training session will be held the morning of the clinic (Saturday, May 30, 2015) from 9AM-10AM on site. Please note: this training session is required for all legal service providers.

Translators/Interpreters: (Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic speakers) will assist legal service providers in completing intake, document completion and translate official documents (e.g. birth certificates). A one-hour training session will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 10AM-11AM at the clinic site. A small travel stipend will be offered to cover the costs of training. Please note: this training session is required for all translators.

Notaries-Public: (LA) will notarize sworn statements.

General Volunteers: (Community leaders/ service groups) will help register applicants, provide station set up/clean up and support the non-legal aspects of the clinic.

If you are interested and available to volunteer at any of the times below, please complete the attached volunteer form and send your reply to Angela Brown (angela@gcclp.org) or fax to 985.643.6118. If you know others who might be interested, please feel free to forward.
