CCANO: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for a Naturalization Workshop, November 14th and 15th

Dear All:

Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans will be hosting a two-day naturalization workshop at 2505 Maine Avenue in Metairie on November 14 and 15, from 9 am until 5 pm each day. We are hoping to pre-register up to 72 applicants. During the workshop, each applicant will be screened for naturalization eligibility by one of our staff BIA Accredited Representatives. Those applicants who are deemed eligible to apply for naturalization will then be sent to a volunteer station to fill out the naturalization applications. We are allocating roughly 2 hours to prepare each application. All applications filled out by volunteers will be reviewed by our staff before they are mailed to USCIS.

We thank those of you who helped at the last citizenship workshop (& hope you’ll come back!), and we welcome new volunteers! On each day of the workshop, we are hoping to have enough volunteers to prepare 9 applications from 9 am-11pm, 9 applications from 11am-1pm, 9 applications from 1pm-3 pm, 9 applications from 3pm -5 pm. Therefore, this call for volunteers includes a need for:

1. Legal: Attorneys/ law students/ paralegals who can help eligible applicants fill out the naturalization application (a.k.a. Form N-400).

2. Translators: to assist attorney/law students/ paralegals fill out N400s

3. General: volunteers to help register applicants, set up, shut down, etc.

The Center for Public Service Internship Program aims to offer quality internship opportunities to Tulane students in a variety of fields. The Internship Fair provides an excellent chance for you to meet with undergraduate students seeking unpaid, public service internships for the Spring and Summer 2015 semesters.

Tables will be provided for you to set up your materials. Wi-Fi access is also available on demand. We recommend that you type up descriptions of the internship(s) you wish to fill and include your contact information. Bring business cards, brochures, and any other useful information.

You may arrive at 5 pm to begin setting up your table and information. The Tulane Traffic Office has been informed about the fair and will stop writing citations at 4:45 pm on November 12 so you may park safely on campus without a guest parking tag after that time. PUENTES New Orleans 2nd Annual New Orleans Enrollment Summit & Community Health Fair, Nov. 22

Hola amigos,

Un cordial saludo! Les deseamos un dia muy exitoso. Este en una invitacion para que visiten y difundan el mensaje sobre un evento para el beneficio de Latinos en nuestra area. El Sábado, 22 de Noviembre de 10 am a 3 pm en la Universidad Delgado, Puentes Nueva Orleans será el anfitrión de la segunda Feria de Salud y Seguro Médico. A través de este evento, Puentes tendrá la oportunidad de dar servicios de salud gratuitos, educar a la comunidad sobre recursos de salud en el área, y aumentar el porcentaje de cobertura médica entre Latinos y otras comunidades marginadas y vulnerables en el área. Con el apoyo de Telemundo y otros socios comunitarios, Puentes planea servir alrededor de mil quinientas personas en el área metropolitana de Nueva Orleáns. Este evento es un paso hacia lograr los objetivos de las metas federales declaradas en Healthy People 2020 al disminuir inequidades de salud y aumentar el nivel de cobertura médica en la ciudad, mientras se promueve una mejor y más sana Nueva Orleáns.

Ayúdanos difundir este mensaje en sus respectivas redes de media. Nuestra meta es apoyar a la comunidad Latina, asegurarnos de que estén asegurados medicamente, y que sepan de los recursos comunitarios y médicos en el área. Para esta feria de Salud se unirán los mejores recursos comunitarios que sirven diariamente a Latinos en el área. Durante el evento todos los servicios generales para todas edades, serán totalmente gratis e incluyen: chequeos de visión, dentales, de colesterol, glucosa/diabetes, VIH, presión, peso, podólogo, vacunas generales, chequeos generales, información sobre: prevención, salud mental, salud reproductiva, preparación para emergencias. También habrán actividades familiares, regalos, comida Latina, y mucho mas! Sera un evento increíble, totalmente gratis, y con el fin de promover una comunidad Latina más Sana.

USCIS Multilingual Public Engagements: National Arabic-Language November 19th

Dear Friends:

On Wednesday, November 19th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (Eastern), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will conduct a national Arabic-language engagement (Musharakah) as part of our ongoing series of multilingual public engagements. Each Musharakah will focus on an immigration-related topic and include a presentation and Q&A session with USCIS officials. During the event, USCIS spokespersons will provide explanations of the law, regulations, and forms, but do not offer legal advice or provide case specific information.

Our first national Musharakah session will promote the Office of Citizenship’s Initiative: The Naturalization process – Becoming a United States Citizen. The event will be held from the Arab American Museum in Dearborn, Michigan and stakeholders may participate:
